It's common, and may even be necessary for a protagonist to have some extraordinary ability. Be sure that your character's special ability doesn't provoke laughter (unless that's what you're going for).
Commentary
Wade Watts is said to be just good at video games, beats them easily. This implies a whole lot of things because there are a whole lot of different types of video games that require vastly different skill sets. Even in the '70s/80s, Pong required a different set of skills from a text adventure games, and the field expanded from there.
